Holiday time is gift time. Many people buy gifts for employees and work colleagues. Here are some office gift ideas and corporate gift ideas that won't break the bank.
Buying gifts for work colleagues or employees is rewarding but it can be tricky and can quickly become expensive. However, a little research can result in a range of thoughtful gift ideas that are well-received and some can even enhance the workplace.
Individual Corporate Gift Ideas
Individual gifts are the most popular but buying them can become a costly nightmare. Here are some ideas for inexpensive gifts that should delight the recipient:
Pens and pencils. Writing instruments are always welcome. Careful research on the internet can identify pens and pencils that are not expensive, but look and feel elegant and sophisticated.
Wine and liquor. Take care with this gift idea. Some people may be offended by this type of gift. Also, make sure that everyone offered such a gift is legally able to receive it.
Desk accessories. Desk organizers, photo frames, clocks, and so on.
Clothing and caps. Don't forget it's winter, so T-shirts are probably not a good idea. Wool caps, scarves, gloves, and so on will be welcome.
Mugs.
Electrical goods. These again don't have to cost a great deal and might include personal earphones, flash memory sticks or SD cards.
Gift baskets (see below).
Gift Cards (see below).
As an employer it is tempting to think of adding the company logo to many of the items listed here. Think carefully before doing so in case the gift is perceived as more self-serving than personal.
Gift Baskets
There is a wide range of gift baskets available. For the owner of a small business, or for a boss that wants to gift employees, this is a chance to personalize the gift to the individual.
Food baskets
Coffee baskets
Tea baskets
Spa baskets
Wine baskets
Beer baskets
Hangover baskets
Cheese baskets
Chocolate baskets
Gift Cards
Perhaps the most useful and welcome gift of all is the gift card. Store gift cards are useful if there is a large department store in the area with many different outlets, but some people may need to travel a long way to reach one of the stores, in which case the card is never used and the money is wasted. A more general gift card from a financial institution may be of more use to everyone.
Personal Gift Ideas
Well-chosen personal gifts are a favorite. For the person with just a few items to gift, consider mug stuffers- mugs, or tea cups and saucers with items inside. Sachets of tea, coffee, or hot chocolate and a few chocolates in a cup and saucers wrapped in cellophane is a wonderful gift.
Office Gift Ideas
Rather than buying individual gifts for employees, give some thought to spending some money on enhancing the work environment in some way. This is particularly useful when employees have been asking for improvements to their work conditions so that it can be presented as a reward for the year's work. Consider for example buying a microwave oven or refrigerator for the office, replacing the office chairs, redecorating, or buying all the staff comfortable telephone headsets.
With a little thought and planning, Christmas at the workplace can be almost as much fun as Christmas at home.

This article provides a number of great ideas, and a good reminder that a
gift basket can actually be a very personalized and thoughtful gift, since,
as mentioned above, these days there are more and more specific type of
gift baskets that appeal to more and more focused audiences.
In
fact, I myself am in the gift-basket business, and yet, only TODAY am I
learning that such a thing as a "Hangover Basket" actually
exists, thanks to this article. Rest assured though, we will definitely be
looking into just what makes a great hangover basket!
HELPFUL SHOPPING TIP: Make sure, if you are planning to shop
online for gift baskets, that you only choose a gift basket that includes
alcoholic merchandise if you are sending it to a state where it is legal to
ship alcoholic items. Most online stores nowadays (including Van's) will go
ahead and check the recipient address for you, but you definitely wouldn't
want your basket to get caught up in the postal system rather than be
enjoyed by the intended recipient! So, here are a list of states where one
is currently not allowed to ship alcoholic gift baskets:
WA, UT,
MT, SD, OK, AK, MI, AL, GA, VA, MD, DE, PA, NJ, MA, RI, ME
But
if you're recipient lives in one of these states and you'd really like to
send them great gourmet basket, you may try to find a gift basket shop
local to that state (as long as its shipped within the same state, alcohol
is fine), or you can check out Coffee, Tea, or Chocolate baskets, as great
alternatives, that your special someone is still sure to enjoy. Happy
shopping!
